А 20 серпня в Українському Домі відбудеться прем'єрний концерт проєкту «Музика для 12 акордеонів» – програми з новими творами медіа-артиста й композитора Георгія Потопальського та композиторки Алли Загайкевич. Такі твори і естетично, і за розміром акордеонного ансамблю в Україні будуть створені вперше.
Проєкт натхненний ідеєю Георгія Потопальського створити акустичний твір, який працює за логікою електронної музики: якщо електроніка зазвичай намагається відтворити звук акустичних інструментів, то тут усе відбувається навпаки – акордеон уподібнюється до звучання і органу, і синтезатора. Твори, написані за допомогою генерації алгоритмів і переведені в традиційні ноти, демонструють спорідненість водночас і з поліфоніями Баха і з математично виваженим мікрозвуком Альва Ното. Музиканти розміщені не на сцені, а навколо слухачів – такий принцип просторового звучання теж більш характерний для багатоканальних електронних виступів.
«ХІІБ» стане дебютним акустичним твором Георгія Потопальського і першим твором з такою концепцією. Концертну програму продовжує твір «Corpus Caeleste» Алли Загайкевич. Композиторка присвячує свій твір засновнику напрямку алгоритмічної музики в Україні – Леоніду Грабовському (1935) та його послідовнику – Данилу Перцову (1973–2021).
Після концертного виконання «ХІІБ» Георгія Потопальського також буде відтворено як дванадцятиканальну звукову інсталяцію. Відвідувачі зможуть дослідити, як змінюється сприйняття звуку залежно від часу, проведеного з твором, власного розташування у просторі та подій, які відбуваються навколо.
Ідея, що стала в основі проєкту «Музика для 12 акордеонів», народилася понад сім років тому. Вона втілюється посеред періоду хаосу, виявляючи те, як ми сьогодні сприймаємо почуте, як ми слухаємо й прислухаємося, як втрачаємо, виборюємо та упорядковуємо час.

Time Based will present ‘Music for 12 Accordions’ in Kyiv, a project exploring sound, listening and time
On 20 August, the premiere of ‘Music for 12 Accordions’ will take place at the Ukrainian House – a concert featuring new works by media artist and composer Georgiy Potopalskyi and composer Alla Zagaykevych. Works of this kind, both in terms of their aesthetic and the size of the accordion ensemble, will be created for the first time in Ukraine. The project will continue 28–30 August in the Pavilion of Culture with a 12-channel sound installation by Georgiy Potopalskyi, alongside a public programme dedicated to sound, practices of listening and the perception of time. ‘Music for 12 Accordions’ is being realised by the Time Based platform and has been prepared with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation as part of the ‘Culture During War’ grant programme.
The project is inspired by Georgiy Potopalsky’s idea to create an acoustic piece following the principles of electronic music: instead of synthesised sound imitating acoustic instruments, the accordion takes on the sound of both an organ and a synthesiser. The pieces, composed using algorithm-generated music and transcribed into traditional musical notation, demonstrate affinities with both Bach’s polyphonies and Alva Noto’s mathematically precise microsound. The musicians are positioned not on stage but around the audience – this principle of spatial sound is also more typical of multi-channel electronic performances.
‘XIIB’ will be Georgiy Potopalskyi’s first acoustic work and the first known to us that is built on this concept. The concert programme continues with Alla Zagaykevych’s piece ‘Corpus Caeleste’. The composer dedicates her work to the founder of algorithmic music in Ukraine – Leonid Grabovsky (1935) – and his follower – Danylo Pertsov (1973–2021).
Presented first as a concert performance, Georgiy Potopalskyi’s ‘XIIB’ will unfold as a 12-channel sound installation. Visitors will be able to explore how their perception of sound changes depending on the time spent with the piece, their own position in the space and the events taking place around them.
The idea behind the ‘Music for 12 Accordions’ began to take shape more than seven years ago. It is being realised amid a period of chaos, revealing how we perceive what we hear today, how we listen – and strain to hear – how we lose, fight for, and organise time.
